Two slender points rest at either edge of this plate like a dancer's arms held just so. Cast in black clay, the plate sits low and flat on the table, as if whispering. This is just one piece from Natalia Criado's series in which she works alongside artisans in La Chamba, a small community in Colombia's Tolima region where pottery has been the primary trade for generations. Each piece is shaped by hand, burnished with river stones, and fired black through a traditional smoking process, no glaze involved, just clay, stone, and smoke doing what they've always done.
