Care and Handling Instructions
- Do not put dried amaranthus in water. It has already been dried and preserved. Water will stain it, collapse the stems and undo the preservation.
- Unbox flat and lift stems out individually. Dried material is brittle, and the trailing ropes tangle.
- Expect some shedding. A dried tassel drops a small amount of material whenever it's handled, and that's normal rather than a sign of damage. Work over a sheet or a bin if you want to keep the mess down.
- If the strands look crushed from shipping, hang the bunch upside down for a day or two and they will relax back into shape.
- Keep it out of direct sunlight. UV fades bleached and dried material faster than anything else, and a bleached white will go yellow in a sunny window.
- Keep it dry. Humidity is the one thing that ruins preserved stems — a damp garage or basement will soften and mould them.
- Stored properly in a dry, shaded spot, it lasts for years rather than days.
