A butcher block fit for a holiday roast or Sunday supper chicken, this beautiful, solid board is made from a single slab of California Bay Laurel by woodworker Max Schulz in Santa Cruz, California. One surface is rimmed by a generous moat for catching run-off juices; the other is smooth, to allow for use as an everyday countertop for kitchen prep (we suggest you keep it out permanently). The deep hand pockets on either end make it easy to lift and move, while the the inlayed strips (or stringers) on the smooth side help to prevent the wood from warping. Bay Laurel is characterized by dramatic color variations ranging from warm golds to slates and chocolate browns. As stunning as it is functional, Bay Laurel's antibacterial properties make it a wonderful surface for preparing meat or poultry.
