Note: Due to the traditional "blind" resist hand-block printing method, this fabric features subtle hallmarks of the handmade process, such as occasional ink drips and beautifully imperfect alignments. We celebrate this resulting uniqueness and hope you do, too.
HAND LOOMED
Our hand loomed fabric is made in rural India by artisan weavers using pedals, shuttles, and manpower to weave the fabric, all without the aid of electricity.
The multi-step process is carried out by the community, from warping yarns and winding cones, to starching fabric and setting up the loom.
The weavers we work with are either entrepreneurs with looms in their homes or part of a weaving revival project or NGO.
HAND BLOCK PRINTED
We collaborate with a family of 7th generation master printers in Bagru, India to create our block printed fabric.
Each part of the process of this ancient technique takes place in this community: hand carving blocks out of wood, hand printing the fabric using Azo-free dyes, and washing and setting the final textiles. Nature plays an important role in the process, from mineral rich water and the sun’s rays to plants and the earth, all used in various stages of printing.
