A Stream between Autumn Trees

Landscape (Trees) by Edward Mitchell Bannister traces a narrow stream between wooded banks and a large foreground stone. Trees carrying warm brown and yellow foliage rise on either side, with small patches of pale sky beyond. The water is described in short grey-green strokes. The enclosing banks and broken colour give this intimate landscape study a different scale from Bannister's open fields and coastal horizons.
