Blacksmith is an old English black currant introduced by the Laxton Brothers of Bedford. It produces juicy berries with tender skins and a flavour that balances sweetness with the characteristic acidity of black currants.

Historical descriptions emphasize its productive, vigorous bushes and late harvest. Its spreading habit gives it a different form from more compact, upright cultivars.
