These chokecherry seedlings come from our Oxheart selection of Prunus virginiana, found among Garrington seedlings. The parent bears medium sized, elongated, pointed fruit that ripens from red to black. At Oak Summit Nursery it ripens in August, later than Garrington's July crop, and its fruit clusters are slightly longer.
The seed has the same elongated form as the fruit. These are open pollinated seedlings rather than copies of the parent, so fruit shape, ripening and other traits can vary. Some may reproduce the unusual fruit form.
