The bird's-eye view gives this still life a contemporary perspective while allowing every element on the table to be seen at once.

These still life paintings showcase the ceramics and food at Nimmo Bay. The richly saturated colours of the seafood and ingredients used are stunning. The compositional viewpoint also creates unusual foreshortening and subtle distortions that give the painting a slightly surreal quality.

I find beauty in the remains of a meal. Half-eaten food, scattered shells, crumbs, and unfinished glasses tell a story. They suggest that people were recently present and make the scene feel lived in and personal.

In the same way that the mess left after a party reflects the revelry of the night before, the remains of a meal tell their own story.

A perfectly arranged table often feels sterile, more like product photography than a lived experience. I wanted this painting to celebrate the traces that people leave behind.
