Skulls at His Feet and a Gnarly Tail: The Gargoyle Toad Figurine
A toad gargoyle crouches above a pile of skulls, his tail gnarled and curled. This gargoyle toad figurine is hand painted cold cast resin. It is made for the home or the garden.
Gargoyles first served as waterspouts on medieval churches. Carvers shaped them as beasts, demons, and odd hybrids. Their grotesque faces were part warning and part wit.
A toad suits that tradition well. It is humble, odd, and a little menacing. The skulls add a note of memento mori. This gothic garden figurine nods to that old humor.
Grotesque by Design
The toad is squat and heavy, with warts and a wide mouth. Skulls ring the base like a miniature ossuary. This toad gargoyle with skulls reads as dark humor.
A gothic garden figurine looks well beside ferns, stone, or a doorstep. Explore more in our dragons and gargoyles collection. This gargoyle toad figurine also works on a shelf. A hand painted cold cast resin gargoyle weathers well when sheltered. Each hand painted cold cast resin gargoyle varies slightly.

Gargoyles and Grotesques
A true gargoyle is a carved waterspout that throws rain clear of a wall. Figures that do not carry water are properly called grotesques. Both flourished on Gothic cathedrals, including Notre-Dame in Paris, from the 12th century on. Carvers invented animals and monsters that still delight us today.
