Barques au bois de Boulogne

A joyful Fauvist study of leisure on the water, Louis Valtat’s Barques au bois de Boulogne captures the colour and bustle of Parisian life. Rowers and swans animate the foreground, their forms rendered with bold, rhythmic brushstrokes, while dappled greens and violets shimmer across the trees and water.
