Graceful, resilient, and deeply evocative—Windswept Cypress captures the spirit of the California coast in Yoshiko Yamamoto’s masterful woodblock style. Inspired by the iconic Monterey cypress trees shaped by ocean breezes, this tile embodies both strength and serenity in Motawi’s signature raised-line technique, bringing the majestic beauty of nature to indoor spaces.
Yoshiko Yamamoto is a self-taught block printmaker who strives to fuse Japanese design sensibility with fine craftsmanship. Several years ago, Nawal Motawi, a longtime admirer of Yoshiko's work, approached her for a collaboration, thinking the artists' bold prints would work well as a raised-line tile design. She was right. Yamamoto's graceful, swaying scenes bring the clay to life.
