Introduced in 1968, Patek Philippes Golden Ellipse has always occupied a singular place within the manufactures catalogue. Neither round nor rectangular, its softly elongated case was conceived around the proportions of the golden section, creating a design that feels both mathematically resolved and unusually sensual. More than half a century later, it remains one of Patek Philippes most recognizable expressions of pure dress-watch design. Introduced in 2008 to mark the 40th anniversary of the Golden Ellipse, the Ref. 5738 revived the collections larger proportions while introducing platinum to the model for the first time.

This Ref. 5738P is rendered in platinum, giving the familiar Ellipse form a cooler, more discreet character. Measuring 34mm across, the case frames Patek Philippes signature deep blue dial, a pairing that has become virtually synonymous with the model. The absence of unnecessary detail is precisely the point: applied baton markers, slender hands, and the broad expanse of blue allow the shape and proportions to do nearly all of the work. Inside is Patek Philippes ultra-thin automatic micro-rotor movement.

The watch retains its integrated-style black leather strap, which is fitted with its original signed Patek Philippe buckle, which preserves the seamless visual flow of the Ellipses case.
