Garlic ‘Germidour’ holds the RHS Recommended: Award of Garden Merit and is a long-established French softneck that's well suited to growing in British gardens. Plant it in autumn to give the cloves time to establish before winter, ready for growth to pick up again in spring.
Come summer, lift large white bulbs filled with distinctive purple cloves. The mild, rich flavour makes this a particularly useful all-rounder in the kitchen – full of flavour without overpowering other ingredients.
As a softneck variety, ‘Germidour’ doesn't produce the rigid central stem found in hardneck garlic. Once the bulbs have been properly dried, the flexible stems can be plaited after harvest for a traditional way to keep your homegrown crop.
