Three very different roses make this a collection with plenty of personality, combining the abundant pink flower clusters of ‘Bonica’, neat creamy-apricot blooms of ‘Champagne Moment’ and unmistakable purple flowers of ‘Rhapsody in Blue’. Plant them together for a varied rose display or use them individually through a mixed border.

• ‘Bonica’ – Small Shrub/Ground Cover – Large sprays of soft shell-pink, semi-double flowers appear in abundance above glossy dark green foliage, repeating from summer into autumn. Its bushy, spreading growth gives it a softer, more relaxed appearance than a formal bush rose, reaching around 80–90cm high and across. Exceptionally hardy, it’s a reliable choice for borders and informal planting.

• ‘Champagne Moment’ – Floribunda – Pink-flushed buds open to fragrant double flowers in creamy white, warmed with pale apricot towards their centres. Compact, repeat flowering and particularly useful towards the front of a border, it was named Rose of the Year in 2006 and has received international awards. Whartons gives its mature size as around 60cm high × 60cm across.

• ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ – Shrub – The showstopper of the collection, producing very fragrant, semi-double flowers that open purplish-magenta before fading towards an unusual smoky slate-blue. Its taller, upright growth gives the collection height as well as a completely different colour. Grows to around 1.4–1.5m high, making it ideal towards the back of the group.

Together they create layers of colour and height rather than three roses that all look and grow alike. ‘Champagne Moment’ sits neatly towards the front, ‘Bonica’ fills out the middle with sprays of pink flowers, while taller ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ gives the planting a strong backdrop.
