Every cottage has its own unwritten rules—but somehow, they’re all exactly the same. Cottage Country Code is a playful, tongue-in-cheek take on those universally understood “guidelines” of lake life—the ones nobody officially explains, yet everyone just seems to know.
This piece leans into the reality—the funny, familiar, and slightly chaotic side of cottage life. It’s inspired by all the little things that come to mind when I think of being at the lake: the unspoken etiquette, the traditions, and the inside jokes every family and group of friends seems to share. Things like knowing there’s no such thing as a dress code, realizing bad WiFi might actually have an upside, and understanding that happy hour isn’t a time—it’s a state of mind.
I wanted to create something light, modern, and relatable. A typographic piece that reads like a list of rules—but really, it’s a collection of moments that make people smile and say, “Yep… that’s us.”
In the kitchen where the coffee is always on. By the fridge covered in grocery lists and beer tallies. Or anywhere people gather, laugh, and fully embrace the beautifully unstructured rules of cottage life.
