Before refrigeration, milk was kept in brass — drawn each morning, set on a shelf, poured through the day. A pot like this one was an everyday vessel in subcontinental homes, in daily use long enough to outlive the kitchen it began in.

It is antique solid brass, decades old, with a faceted body that narrows to a short neck and small lugs at the rim. Each panel is hand-engraved with fine arabesque and botehs — the mark of the metalsmith who made it. We collected this piece as it was found, not made to order.

It earns its place on a shelf, a mantel or a table — a single stem set into its mouth, or simply left to stand on its own.
