One evening they hold candles, the next they're snack bowls, and by summer they're a bird bath out in the garden — a pair of brass stands that won't be pinned to a single job.
They're hand-hammered in brass in Peshawar, the home of the country's copper and brass work, one large and one medium, each a wide bowl raised on a tall stem. Fill them, light them, plant them, or stand them empty for the gold they bring to a corner. Bought as a pair, they work at two heights together.
