A coal, a piece of agar, a thread of smoke carried through the house before guests arrive or prayers begin — the agardaan has held that ritual across Persia and the subcontinent for centuries, scenting a room and settling it.
These vintage agardaans are brass, each an urn-shaped burner raised on a pedestal foot, with a domed pierced lid that lets the smoke rise. The repoussé and engraved floral bands are worked by hand, and the designs vary from piece to piece — choose by the one that draws you.
Burn loban or agarbatti in it, or keep it as it is on a mantel or shelf. Either way it earns its place.
