At South Asian weddings for centuries, a guest was greeted before they sat down. A thin mist of rosewater — released from a long-necked bottle with a perforated top — fell across the hands and clothing. It was a blessing, an act of hospitality, a ritual that needed no translation.
This silver-plated gulaab paash is an antique rosewater sprinkler — ten to eleven inches tall, its neck designed for the slow controlled pour, the perforated top for the mist. The silver-plating and the hand-worked detail make it a piece for display as much as use. Found, not made to order. May carry age marks, which are part of what it is.
