The pierced screens of old Mughal buildings — stone cut so fine the light fell through in patterns — found their way, over centuries, into the brass of subcontinental homes. This caddy carries that work to the table: walls cut clean through in leaf and vine, a crowned rim, an engraved floor.
It's worked by hand in brass in Lahore, where families have done this piercing — jali — for generations, the cutwork opened through a tall wall, the rim edged in a brass crown, the whole piece raised on four feet. Rest a stack of dessert or quarter plates inside and the pierced wall frames them; carry it out as one. Set out fruit or bread in it just as well. In gold or silver.
