THE BRAND
Kamakura Shirts was founded in 1993 by Yoshio Sadasue and his wife Tamiko in the city of Kamakura, which was once the capital of Japan. The brand delivers high-quality shirts from the finest craftsmen in Japan to the world, taking its inspiration from the American Ivy League schools of the 1960s.
DETAILS
Designed in collaboration with illustrator Graham Marsh, the Vintage Ivy chambray button-down is a reinterpretation of the shirt found on American college campuses in the 1960s. This is the updated version of the model, now produced under the Kamakura Classics label from September 2026. The construction carries forward the character of the original that Lund & Lund has previously carried, with the addition of a seven-button front placket. The 5.5oz chambray cloth has a softer, more fluid drape than Oxford weave and takes on further character with washing and wear, making this the most casual of the Vintage Ivy colourways.
The shirt is cut in a regular fit with a box pleat at the back. The shorter three-inch collar carries two quintessential Ivy details: a back button and a locker loop. Pleated button cuffs and a chest pocket complete the classic references. Vintage Ivy shirts are pre-washed for a softer appearance; some measurements are affected by the pre-wash process.
WEAR IT WITH
The chambray shirt suits an earthy, relaxed palette. Wear it tucked into the PT Torino Washed Beige Corduroy Trousers, add the Harris Wharf London Grey Boiled Wool Utility Jacket as an outer layer, and ground the outfit with the Paraboot Whiskey Brown Suede Avoriaz Hiking Boots.
