THE BRAND
Simonnot-Godard has been producing fine French pocket squares and handkerchiefs since 1787, making it one of the oldest surviving textile houses in France. Based in Paris and manufactured in the north of France, the house is the benchmark for pocket square quality at the highest level, combining centuries of craft knowledge with natural fibres selected for their handle, drape and longevity.
DETAILS
The Simonnot-Godard Croix in white cotton linen is a pocket square that earns its place in a working wardrobe. At 30x30cm it sits between the more compact Capelle and the larger Fontaine, offering a versatile fold height that works with both higher and lower breast pockets without adjustment.
The fabric is woven from a 50% linen, 50% cotton blend that combines the structure and body of linen with the soft hand and refinement of cotton. The result is a cloth that holds a fold with precision, resists collapse across a long day, and softens naturally with every wash. The checkered pattern is rendered in a tonal white-on-white weave, where the ground and the motif share the same colour but differ in texture and light reflection. From a distance the square reads as clean and white; at closer range the check surface reveals itself with a quiet elegance that rewards attention without seeking it.
Each Croix is handmade in France to Simonnot-Godard's exacting standards, with the hand-rolled hem that has been the house's signature for over two centuries. Machine washable.
WEAR IT WITH
The tonal check of the Croix sits naturally with a suit that has its own surface interest. Fold it into a flat president or a soft puff and pair it with the Lund & Lund Charcoal Grey S120 Twill Wool Suit - Black Line, the Barba Napoli White Pinpoint Cutaway Shirt - Slim Fit, and the Lund & Lund Chocolate Brown Grenadine Silk Tie. The warm brown of the tie draws the eye while the white-on-white texture of the square keeps the breast pocket composed and uncluttered.
