The Cutlass is a compact metal lure designed for exceptional casting distance. Its erratic wobble, flashing action and feathered assist hook combine to imitate vulnerable prey, provoking instinctive strikes from fast-moving predatory fish.
This cork-lined lure tin comes with two metal lures — one 20g and one 40g — complete with quality trebles and feathered assist hooks.
20g: 75mm
40g: 94mm
What species it's designed for:
Bass, Mackerel, Bream, Pollock, however; this lure will work for most predatory fish.
Where to fish it:
The Cutlass is highly versatile and can be used from the shore, beach, rocks or a boat.
How to retrieve it:
Cast and retrieve at speed when fish are actively chasing bait, or slow the retrieve and allow it to flutter down through the water column when fish are holding deeper. Mix in pauses, twitches and changes of pace to create an injured or fleeing prey fish action.
Choosing your lure size:
Start by ‘matching the hatch’ — choose the size that best resembles the prey fish you can see or expect the predators to be feeding on.
What conditions it suits:
The 20g is a great general-purpose option, generally better for shallower water, calmer conditions and a lighter, more subtle presentation; switch to the 40g when you need to punch into wind, reach distant feeding fish or get down through deeper, faster-moving water or stronger currents.
Recommended rod/reel setup:
A 8-10ft rod with a rating suitable for both weights, generally up to 45g to maintain a light and mobile setup. Use a lighter reel to offer better balance with modern graphite spinning rods, this will also reduce wrist fatigue from repetitive casting.
