‘Midnight Garden II’ by heraldBLACK is a greeting card featuring one of the original monoprints from the 'Midnight Garden' range.
The original print of 'Midnight Garden II' is a monoprint using plant pieces as a stencil. The plant pieces have been placed on an inked plate. Some of the plant has already been in contact with ink (the grey areas), the others have not (the white areas). The print plate is covered with paper then put through the print press.
heraldBLACK is a small British brand founded by East London based printmaker Stephen Dow. Originally from Northern Ireland, Stephen graduated from the Belfast School of Art, working first as a textile print assistant with John Rocha in Dublin, followed by over 10 years working with Habitat and The Conran Shop, before returning to printmaking in 2013. His work has recently been selected by Anthropologie, Pringle of Scotland & Ermenegildo Zegna.
The cards by heraldBLACK are reproduced from original prints by a commercial print company in Wiltshire. Indigo printing is the process where they use liquid inks rather than powder ones.
