An oval face, plain and unengraved, in sterling silver. The shape stands upright on the tie, a little taller than it is wide, and the smooth surface picks up whatever light is in the room without drawing attention to itself. Nothing about it dates.
A tie tac pins through the tie rather than folding over the edge, so it holds a knitted or heavier tie as steadily as a fine silk one. Fasten it a little below the mid-point of the chest, above the waistband, and let the tie fall naturally over the pin.
It arrives in a presentation gift box. An occasional wipe with a soft cloth will keep the silver bright between wearings.
