A single round garnet held in a claw setting of solid 9ct gold, finished as a tie tac. The stone is a deep red, cut with facets that catch the light and darken towards the centre. Small, and meant to be.
A tie tac sits through the tie and holds it to the shirt front, so the fitting stays out of sight and only the stone shows. It suits a plain tie best, where there is no pattern competing with the colour. Worn a little below the midpoint of the chest, roughly level with the third shirt button.
Garnet is the birthstone for January, which makes this a considered choice for a birthday as well as a piece to keep in the drawer for good shirts.
