How much space will you have for quilting on a 19-inch longarm quilting machine? See for yourself in this video with Leah Day:
In this longarm quilting video, Leah compares the following quilting machines:
Grace 16X longarm - This 16-inch longarm could quilt across half of the heart block in one pass. This isn't a deal breaker! It just requires advancing the quilt through the frame to reach the rest of the quilt block.
Grace 19X Elite Longarm - The 16-inch heart block nearly fit within the 19X Elite's long throat. If you plan your quilting design carefully, you won't need to advance to stitch across a block this size with this longarm quilting machine.
Grace 21X Elite longarm - If you want to maximize your quilting potential, of course the entire heart block fit easily within the huge 21-inch throat of the 21X Elite longarm. This is the longarm to pick if you'd like finish your quilt as fast as possible with the least amount of fuss.
What makes a great machine the best longarm quilting machine to buy? The size, the speed, and the price.
The Grace 19X Elite longarm machine is a Goldilocks longarm - it's perfect size between our Grace 16 and 21-inch longarm machines. If you mostly piece 12-inch quilt blocks, this is the longarm that will allow you to quilt across both the block AND sashing in one go.
You can go FAST with the 19X Elite! This longarm quilting machine can make up to 2600 stitches per minute. If you are a confident quilter and have memorized lots of free motion quilting designs, you'll need to select a longarm that has the speed to match your pace.
The 19X Elite longarm is competitively priced under $10,000. Most longarm quilting machines of this size typically retail for $15,000 to $20,000.

The 19X Elite longarm machine has been my favorite machine for a long time. I've nicknamed her Tardis (from the UK TV show Dr Who) because it feels like it's bigger on the inside. I always have more quilting space than I expect, and that is a wonderful surprise when longarm quilting.
Now with the new option to begin with the 19SD Sit Down Long Arm and upgrade later, these are both my favorite. I love that you can begin with this huge, powerful machine set in a quilting table and upgrade the machine anytime. This is a machine that will grow with you for years to come!
