When we first acquired this ring, we thought it was some sort of patriotic motif, but after a bit of deeper digging, we learned that this blue star center in a red-lined rectangle is actually the symbol for the Blue Star Banner, a flag that families would wave when they had members serving in the Armed Forces. It was first shown in 1917 by a man who had two sons serving in WW1, and grew to be a symbol of pride for military families that is still used to this day.
While we acquired it as a ring, we believe that it lived it's first life as a stick pin that was later converted. Either way, it is a beautifully crafted old jewel with historical sentiment and so much character.
