Support a granite countertop overhang with nothing showing underneath. The Hidden Granite Countertop L Bracket sets into the top of your knee-wall, pony-wall, or cabinet header providing nearly invisible support under your countertop overhang.
This bracket is cut from solid ½" A-36 American steel. That's twice the thickness of a standard countertop bracket. Four screws hold the top leg in a routed channel. Two more anchor the 4" back plate into the header or stud. The bracket becomes part of the framing.
Rated up to 325 lbs per bracket when installed per instructions - It supports countertops made of granite, quartz, concrete, wood and all other countertop materials.
Available in seven lengths, 10" to 22". Powder Coated Finishes - Matte Black, White, or paint your own Raw Steel.
Installation is straightforward. Route a ½" channel, set the bracket, drive six included screws, level, and set the countertop. For installation see our videos and PDFs.
Important Note on Load Capacity: Rated working load: 325 lbs per bracket on knee/pony wall installations · 300 lbs per bracket on cabinet-base installations - when installed per instructions: top-mounted with the horizontal leg fully bearing on the framing shown for your application, back plate anchored into the header and/or vertical stud, brackets spaced 16" to 24" on center, under evenly distributed static load. The rating assumes an evenly distributed static load; concentrated edge loads, such as leaning or sitting on a bar edge, require tighter bracket spacing. This bracket is not designed for front mounting - installing it in a front-mount position will result in failure. Brackets must be anchored into sound 2x4 or 2x6 framing or a 2x6 cabinet header with the included hardware; drive fasteners to a firm, secure hold without over-torquing. Always follow the installation guide and consult a professional for load-bearing applications or if you are unsure about your framing.
Our recommendations meet or exceed the general guidelines provided by the Natural Stone Institute (formerly MIA) for safe and effective countertop support. While natural stone and exotic materials can be unpredictable, and man-made solid surface tops may require less support, our recommendations, based on extensive experience, offer a higher level of structural integrity and peace of mind compared to the minimum guidelines for unsupported overhangs.
Because this bracket mounts into the top of your framing, part of its length is used up before it clears the finished face of the wall or cabinet. Ideally you want no more than 3" of unsupported countertop extending past the end of the bracket. Here's how to figure it out:
| Your Installation | Build-up | Mounting Depth | Rated Working Load |
|---|---|---|---|
| Knee / pony wall, 2x4 | 3.5" top plate + ½" drywall | 4" | 325 lbs per bracket |
| Knee / pony wall, 2x6 | 5.5" top plate + ½" drywall | 6" | 325 lbs per bracket |
| Cabinet base | 2x6 header on edge + ¾" plywood box | 2¼" | 300 lbs per bracket |
Find your countertop overhang in the left column, then read across to your installation type. The cell is the bracket size to order. (Every cell is just the formula above: Overhang + Mounting Depth − 3", rounded up.)

Brackets are typically spaced 16" or 24" on center to align with standard stud framing. Any spacing between 16" and 24" is acceptable for all countertop materials; maximum 24" on center. On a knee or pony wall, center each bracket on a vertical stud. To figure out exactly how many you need:
Example: For an 84" wide countertop with 16" bracket spacing:
| Countertop Width | Qty @ 16" Spacing | Qty @ 24" Spacing |
|---|---|---|
| 24" | 3 | 2 |
| 36" | 3 | 3 |
| 48" | 4 | 3 |
| 60" | 5 | 4 |
| 72" | 6 | 4 |
| 84" | 6 | 5 |
| 96" | 7 | 5 |
| 108" | 8 | 6 |
| 120" | 9 | 6 |
| 132" | 9 | 7 |
| 144" | 10 | 7 |
| Got a custom size countertop like 91.75" or something in between? No worries! Just use the 4-step formula above - it works for any measurement. When in doubt, add one more bracket. Extra support never hurts, and our brackets are affordable enough that it's always better to over-support than under-support. | ||
