“Don’t mess with Texas.”
They called him the “Tyler Rose,” because he came from nearby Tyler, Texas. But in reality? Earl Campbell was a Saturday afternoon bulldozer — a rumbling force of nature that simply wouldn’t go down. There wasn’t any stopping #20. He busted through the line of scrimmage dragging would-be tacklers with him. He trampled across the goal line 41 times. He crashed through the Longhorns record books, with 4,443 rushing yards.
He sprinted straight to the top of the pro football draft as Texas’s first ever Heisman winner.
When the dust settled? Earl stood alone as a Longhorn legend.
