Wood Banded Surface Mount Ceiling Light

This is a short round ceiling light with a band of wood at the top and a painted aluminium body below it. The wood is what stops it looking like a plain downlight. It surface mounts, so the ceiling does not need cutting. Two body sizes are offered: 3 in for the 5W and 7W versions, and 4.2 in for the 12W and 15W. Six body colours are listed. Three light colours are available and are fixed at order time.

Downlights are meant to disappear. This one is not, and that is the reason to buy it. A band of bare wood sits above a painted body, so the fitting reads as an object on the ceiling rather than a hole in it. In a room with timber floors or slatted walls it picks up the same material overhead.

A recessed downlight is designed to vanish into the plaster.

Two Body Sizes

The small body is 3 in across and 1.3 in deep.

It comes at 5W or 7W and suits a hallway or a small room.

The large body is 4.2 in across and 3 in deep.

It comes at 12W or 15W and suits a living room or kitchen.

The deeper body is more visible from below, which may be the point.

The shallow one sits closer to flush.

Both share the same wood band and the same painted finish.

Rated coverage is 54 to 108 sq ft depending on the version.

The deeper 4.2 in body casts a small shadow ring on the ceiling.

Some people like that and some do not, so look at the images.

Colours and Fitting

Six body colours are listed, from neutrals through to blue and green.

The neutrals suit a room where the wood should lead.

A strong colour turns each light into an accent in its own right.

Green and blue work in a hallway where a white ceiling is dull.

The wood band is the same pale timber on every colour.

It surface mounts with a screw, so no hole is cut.

That makes it usable on a concrete ceiling or in a rental.

The LED is integrated, so there is no lamp to replace.

The supplier lists six colours including pink, but only five appear in the images.

A yellow version is photographed that does not appear in the option list.
