This surface mount LED ceiling light is a plain aluminum cylinder with the lens recessed inside. It bolts flat to the ceiling through a single fixing, so nothing is cut and nothing is hidden. Because the lens sits deep in the tube, you do not see the source from across the room. It dims. Four wattages run from 7W up to 18W, and the two smaller wattages use a shorter body. Pick a white or black outside and a gold, black or white inner ring.

Cutting a hole for a downlight is fine on plasterboard and awkward everywhere else. This one avoids the question. It fixes to the surface through a single hole in the back and sits proud of the ceiling as a plain cylinder. The lens is set well inside the tube, so the bright part is hidden from a normal viewing angle. It dims, and four wattages cover a hallway through to a kitchen bench.
The tube is deeper than the lamp needs to be.
That extra depth is what shields the source from your eye.
You see a lit ring rather than a bright point.
The lamp sits well back inside the tube rather than near the opening.
That depth is doing the same job as a baffle in a recessed fitting.
From a standing position you see a lit ring, not a bright point.
Straight underneath it is bright, which is the point over a bench.
The beam is tighter than a general ceiling light.
A row of three covers a kitchen run better than one central fixture.
Space them evenly and keep them the same distance from the wall.
The 7W and 10W versions use the shorter 4.3 in body.
The 15W and 18W versions add height to hold the larger driver.
The two shorter wattages share a 4.3 in body.
The two higher wattages need 5.9 in to hold a bigger driver.
Both are 3.1 in across, so the footprint on the ceiling is the same.
Check the extra height if the fixture sits near a wall unit.
It fixes through a single 40 mm hole in the back plate.
Nothing else is cut, so the ceiling stays intact.
At 1.2 lb it is light enough for a plasterboard fixing.
The outer tube is white or black and the inner ring is gold, black or white.
A gold ring warms the light visually before the lamp does anything.
A gold ring reads warm even before the lamp is switched on.
A white ring on a white tube makes the fixture disappear.
A black ring reads as a dark eye in a pale ceiling.
The black tube with a gold ring is the strongest of the combinations.
It dims, so the same fixture works for cooking and for eating.
Check that your dimmer is rated for LED loads before ordering.
Bulbs are included, so nothing extra is needed to get it working.
