Sea Green Juniper (Juniperus chinensis ‘Sea Green’) brings arching branches and green evergreen foliage to sunny landscapes. Its distinctive fountain-like shape provides a softer outline than tightly clipped shrubs, making it useful as a specimen or part of a spacious mixed border.
Picture its branches spreading naturally among upright evergreens or flowering shrubs, adding leafy structure when seasonal flowers fade. Give it room to develop its broad form rather than fitting it into a narrow bed that needs constant trimming.
Choose 2 Gallon, 5 Gallon, or 7 Gallon. These labels describe offered nursery-container sizes, not mature dimensions or guaranteed delivery heights or spreads. Select according to your budget and desired starting size.
Where the mature footprint fits, allow the natural arching form to develop. Prune selectively when needed for shape or to remove damaged branches; a formally clipped hedge requires more maintenance than a naturally grown shrub.
Monitor for bagworms and branch dieback. North Carolina Extension describes this cultivar as fairly disease and insect tolerant but notes that blight and bagworms can still occur. Low maintenance does not mean pest-proof.
Container growing: Plan adequate root space, drainage, closer moisture monitoring, and winter root protection where needed. With a potential 6–8-foot spread, a suitable in-ground planting is often the simpler long-term choice. In-ground hardiness ratings do not guarantee equal winter performance in an exposed pot.
Choose Sea Green Juniper for evergreen structure and an arching silhouette in a sunny, well-drained garden with room to grow.
