The Gripzilla "BIG BOY" is a 150 lb hand gripper: a steel alloy torsion spring with knurled aluminum handles. It trains crushing grip, the four-finger squeeze you use to hold a bar, a racket, a climbing hold or a handshake. At 150 lb it's a mid-level gripper for people who lift regularly and want a real challenge.

Key facts

  • Rating: 150 lb, the resistance needed to close the handles together.
  • Spring: steel alloy torsion spring.
  • Handles: knurled aluminum at traditional gripper length (about 4 in / 10 cm). Foam handle covers are included.
  • Size: pocket-size. Train at a desk, in the car or between sets.
  • Part of a ladder: Baby 50 lb, Toddler 100 lb, Big Boy 150 lb, Punisher 200 lb, Bone Crusher 250 lb and The Gripzilla 300 lb. All six come together in the Gripzilla Ultimatum kit.
  • Shipping: USA only.

How the rating works

The number is the resistance needed to close the handles. A torsion spring gets harder the closer the handles get, so the last part of the squeeze is the hardest. Gripper ratings aren't standardized between brands, so compare grippers within one ladder rather than across brands.

How to train with it

  • Warm up first with a few easy squeezes or a lighter gripper.
  • For strength, do sets of 5 to 8 full closes, 2 to 3 times a week, with rest days in between.
  • For endurance, do higher reps on a lighter gripper.
  • Move up a level when you can close it for about 8 to 10 clean reps.
  • Keep the foam covers on for comfort during high-rep work, and take them off for max attempts.

What a gripper doesn't train

A gripper trains the closing side of the hand. To also train the muscles that open the hand and twist the wrist, pair it with the Gripzilla Dynamo or Tornado.

FAQ

Which level should I start with?
Start at 50 or 100 lb if you're new to grippers or returning after time off, 150 lb if you lift regularly, and 200 lb or more if you already train grip.

Does it ship outside the USA?
No. Individual grippers ship within the USA only.

What's the guarantee?
