The Gripzilla Ultimatum is a complete hand gripper kit: six grippers rated 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 lb, so you can train crushing grip from your first session up to elite levels without buying grippers one at a time. Each gripper is a steel alloy torsion spring with knurled aluminum handles.

What's in the kit

  • 6 hand grippers: Baby (50 lb), Toddler (100 lb), Big Boy (150 lb), Punisher (200 lb), Bone Crusher (250 lb) and The Gripzilla (300 lb)
  • 1 pair of foam handle covers
  • 1 nylon gripper bag

Key facts

  • Ratings: each number is the resistance needed to close that gripper's handles.
  • Spring: steel alloy torsion springs.
  • Handles: knurled aluminum at traditional gripper length (about 4 in / 10 cm).
  • What it trains: crushing grip, the four-finger squeeze used in lifting, climbing, grappling, arm wrestling and everyday tasks.

How the ratings work

A torsion spring gets harder the closer the handles get, so the last part of the squeeze is the hardest. Gripper ratings aren't standardized between brands, so the ladder is most useful for measuring your own progress from one level to the next.

How to train with it

  • Find the gripper you can close for about 5 to 8 reps and start there.
  • Train 2 to 3 times a week, with rest days in between.
  • Use the lighter grippers for warm-ups and high-rep endurance work.
  • Move up a level when you can close your working gripper for about 8 to 10 clean reps.

What a gripper doesn't train

Grippers train the closing side of the hand. To also train the muscles that open the hand and twist the wrist, pair the kit with the Gripzilla Dynamo or Tornado.
