About Tinkerbelle® Bare Root Lilac TREE

Syringa ‘Bailbelle’ — Tinkerbelle® PP12,294
Breeder: Neal Holland | Type: Compact Hybrid Lilac | Hardiness: Zones 3–7

🧚 Wine-red buds, soft pink flowers, and a spicy lilac perfume—Tinkerbelle® brings a little magic to the spring garden.

Tinkerbelle® is a compact lilac with a color combination that sets it apart from traditional purple varieties. Deep wine-red flower buds appear in spring before opening into clusters of delicate pink blossoms, creating a beautiful two-tone effect when buds and flowers are present together.

And this little lilac isn't shy about fragrance. Its flowers have a strong, pleasing spicy perfume, making Tinkerbelle® especially lovely near patios, walkways, entrances, or anywhere you'll pass close enough to enjoy it.

🧚 A Little Lilac with a Great Pedigree

Tinkerbelle® was developed by Neal Holland of Sheyenne Gardens in North Dakota by crossing two outstanding compact lilacs: ‘Palibin’ Dwarf Korean lilac and ‘Superba’ littleleaf lilac.

The original cross was made in 1976, but it wasn't until 1985 that the seedling that would become Tinkerbelle® was selected for two particularly important traits: beautiful flower color and excellent cold hardiness.

The result combines the compact garden habit of its parents with something completely its own—those incredible wine-colored buds.

💛 Why Grace Rose Farm Loves It

Tinkerbelle® is proof that compact doesn't have to mean ordinary.

We love the contrast between its dramatic wine-red buds and softer pink flowers. When both stages are present on the shrub at once, the color has wonderful depth.

At just 5–6 feet tall, it's also far easier to incorporate into a smaller garden than a traditional 10-foot lilac. Add Zone 3 hardiness and that spicy fragrance, and Tinkerbelle® becomes an easy choice for gardeners who want a lilac that's both practical and a little unexpected.

🌿 Growing & Care

Plant Tinkerbelle® in full sun and well-drained soil for the strongest flowering and densest habit. Water deeply and consistently while your bare-root lilac establishes.

Its naturally compact shape requires relatively little pruning. If shaping is needed, prune immediately after flowering, before the plant develops flower buds for the following spring.

Try planting Tinkerbelle® near a walkway or patio where you can appreciate the fragrance up close—or repeat several plants for a compact, fragrant spring hedge.
