The Cornuti Seniores, whose name translates to "The Horned Ones", were a prestigious infantry regiment of the Western Roman field army. Originally recruited from Germanic warriors along the Rhine frontier, the Cornuti became renowned for their battlefield prowess and their prominent role within the elite Roman infantry forces.

During the Battle of Strasbourg in 357 AD, the Cornuti Seniores stood in the front line against a fierce Alamannic assault. The regiment was associated with the fearsome barritus, a traditional Germanic war cry described by the Roman historian Ammianus Marcellinus as beginning with a low murmur before building into a thunderous roar, resembling waves crashing against cliffs.

The regiment's distinctive shield pattern is recorded in the Notitia Dignitatum, an important historical document detailing the military organisation, regiments, and insignia of the Late Roman Empire.

Perfect for recreating 4th and 5th century Roman armies, these historically inspired shield transfers add authentic detail and character to your Late Roman infantry, Germanic auxiliary troops, and historical tabletop wargaming collections.
