"Bump steer" is when your steering wheel turns itself when one wheel articulates up or down in a turn. This commonly happens in the middle of turns on lowered E36s and E30s. Excessive bump steer increases tire wear and makes the vehicle more difficult to handle on rough roads. Our bump steer adjustment includes multiple-size bump steer spacers for precise adjustment depending on your ride height to eliminate that problem. Sold as a pair (enough to do one car), our kit also includes the adjustable tie rods themselves
The Drift Spec version of our extra beefy Race tie rods are designed with an intentional fail point in the event of a direct major hit so that the tie rod can bend and prevent more damage to the more expensive/hard-to-fix parts, such as the knuckle, steering rack, or coilovers. With that being said, these tie rods are EXTREMELY strong and feature a solid 0.818" diameter rod in the thinnest area. Most other aftermarket tie rods are hollow tubes inside, while we use solid stock to ensure the most amount of material and strength as possible. These tie rods will handle all the abuse of drifting and be considerably lighter than factory steel tie rods.
E30/E36 Cars running E46 or Extended Control Arms
Among E30/E36 drifters, it's becoming popular to use extended control arms, angle kits, and E46 control arms on your E30 or E36 to increase track width and Negative camber. This is usually done by using our E30/E36 conversion treehouse-style mounts that allow the use of E46 control arms.
However, the problem is that you need longer tie rods due to the wider overall track width! Well, no longer do you have to cut E90 inner tie rods to fit properly, as our adjustable tie rods are already the correct length (extended +1.5in) and are 100% bolt-on, and do not require any modifications to install!
Well, we got your solution. Garagistic E30/E36 extended bump steer adjustable front tie rod end kit for your extended control arm setup! These are extended for the E46 control arm application AND even allow the front outer tie rod end pivot to be relocated, which can be used to correct bump steer resulting from modified caster or lower arm geometry, making your car more predictable!
Please Note: For drifting applications where excessive camber and increased Ackerman is needed, careful consideration of the range of movement of the rod ends will need to be made. The bearings we use are extremely tough, however the spindles will see increased stress if the steering geometry wants to rotate past the range of the bearings. This can cause premature wear.
