Azure Kingfisher (Ceyx azureus)
Found across northern and eastern Australia, one of Australia’s most dazzling tiny birds! With deep blue feathers and bright orange belly. Kingfishers are expert hunters, diving straight into creeks and rivers to snatch fish, insects (even green tree frogs). They’re a significant symbol connected to the importance of waterways and land, acting as a messenger and guardian of sacred places. Embodying qualities like patience, precision, and intuition.
This piece wouldn’t be possible without the reference photo of the Azure Kingfisher from talented photographer Bernadette J Edwards Photography. Thank you Bernadette for allowing me to get up close and figure out all those delicious orange and blue feathers xxx
