Calf body hair is straighter than calf tail and is much easier to stack and tie. That is the reason we prefer this hair for tying hair wing flies such as the "Wulff" series of patterns. The finished fly is much neater and better balanced than a fly tied from the "crinklier" calf tail. We also find that patches are easier to store and more convenient to handle than a Calf tail.
