Dimplex Vital Sense 74" Linear Electric Fireplace FAQ
Can the Vital Sense 74" be installed flush into a wall?
Yes. The SEN74 is engineered with a slim 7.13" depth so it recesses completely into a standard 2x6 wall cavity for a clean, built-in look. It can also be surface-mounted directly to a finished wall if you prefer a more straightforward installation that doesn't require opening up framing.
Does this fireplace need to be hard-wired, or can it be plugged in?
The Vital Sense 74" is convertible—it ships ready to be either hard-wired by an electrician or plugged into a standard 120-volt household outlet. Hard-wiring is typically preferred for built-in installations for the cleanest finished appearance, while plug-in is convenient for surface-mount setups.
How much area will the heater warm?
The integrated fan-forced heater produces 5,118 BTUs at 1,500 watts and provides supplemental warmth for spaces up to 1,000 sq. ft. It's designed as a zone heater to take the chill off a room rather than to serve as a home's primary heat source.
Can I run the flames without the heat turned on?
Yes. The Vital Sense 74" features all-season flame operation, meaning you can enjoy the visual ambience of the 13-color flame display year-round without engaging the heater—ideal for warm-weather months when you want the look of a fire without the warmth.
How do I control the fireplace?
You have three control options: the Glen Dimplex Connect smartphone app for remote operation from anywhere in the home, the included multi-function handheld remote, and a hidden touch control panel built into the unit itself. All three give you full access to flame color, brightness, speed, and heat settings.
Is the Vital Sense 74" approved for commercial installations?
The Vital Sense series is designed primarily for residential use. For commercial applications such as hotels, restaurants, or office lobbies, we recommend confirming the specific install requirements with Dimplex or your local code authority before purchase, as commercial settings may have additional electrical or safety code considerations.
What flame customization options are available?
The SEN74 offers 13 distinct flame colors, 3 flame speeds, and 3 brightness levels, giving you dozens of possible combinations. The flames play across a crystal glass ember bed that reflects and amplifies the color, letting you create anything from a traditional warm amber glow to bold modern blues, purples, or greens.
What warranty comes with the Vital Sense 74" Linear Electric Fireplace?
Dimplex backs the SEN74 with a 1-Year Limited Warranty covering manufacturer defects in materials and workmanship. Registering your product directly with Dimplex after purchase ensures you receive warranty service quickly if any issues arise.
