Dimplex 33" Multi-Fire XHD Plug-In Electric Firebox with Logs (XHD33L) FAQ
Does the Dimplex XHD33L require venting, a chimney, or special wiring?
No. The XHD33L is a fully self-contained electric firebox that requires no venting, no chimney, and no gas lines. It plugs directly into any standard 120V household outlet—no hardwiring or electrician needed. Just make sure there is clearance for air circulation beneath the unit and at least 1/2" of space behind it.
How large of a room can this electric firebox heat?
The built-in Comfort$aver™ ceramic fan-forced heater produces 5,118 BTUs and is rated to heat rooms up to 1,000 square feet. The patented system uses 11% less energy than leading quartz infrared heaters by automatically adjusting fan speed and wattage to match the room's needs.
Can I run the flame effect without the heater turned on?
Yes. The flames and ember bed operate independently of the heater, so you can enjoy the ambiance year-round—even on warm summer days—without producing any heat. This is one of the key advantages of electric fireplaces over gas or wood-burning units.
What are the rough opening dimensions for installing the XHD33L?
The firebox measures 33-1/8" wide x 23-1/4" tall x 7-1/2" deep. It is designed to be fully recessed into a cabinet, mantel, media console, or existing masonry fireplace opening. Always confirm exact framing requirements in the official Dimplex owner's manual before cutting your opening.
How do I control the flame colors, speed, and heat settings?
The XHD33L includes a multi-function remote control that lets you adjust flame speed, brightness, ember-bed and flame accent colors, heat output, thermostat setting, and the 8-hour timer. Built-in touch controls hidden on the unit provide the same functionality as a backup.
Is the front glass safe to touch when the fireplace is operating?
Yes. Unlike gas or wood-burning fireplaces, the tempered front glass on the XHD33L stays cool to the touch even when the heater is running, making it a safe choice for households with children and pets.
What does the manufacturer's warranty cover?
Dimplex backs the Multi-Fire XHD XHD33L with a 2-year limited manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal residential use. Commercial applications and improper installation may void coverage—always register your product and retain proof of purchase.
Can the XHD33L be installed in a commercial space such as a hotel lobby or restaurant?
The Multi-Fire XHD is designed and warrantied primarily for residential use. While the unit's plug-in design and cool-touch glass make it physically suitable for many light-commercial environments, commercial installation may affect warranty coverage. Contact Dimplex directly to confirm requirements for your specific application before purchase.
