A farmer's daughter destined to lead an army, Joan of Arc played a crucial role in driving off the English forces after the Siege of Orleans, paving the road for the coronation of King Charles VII of France. She refused to play the political games of the court and was instead known for her straightforward nature and intense piety. Joan was confident that she had been given a divine mission and never doubted that she would receive the skill and grace to carry it out. Condemned by the English to burn at the stake as a heretic, Joan was later given a posthumous re-trial which would lead to her canonization as a saint.
Though Saint Joan herself preferred to ride into battle with her iconic white banner with gold fleurs-de-lis, she is often associated today with the heraldry granted to her by Charles VII. Our Joan of Arc Tabard adapts this heraldry as a white cross and crown flanked by two fleurs-de-lis on a blue field, or in heraldic terms, “Azure, a sword in pale argent, between a crown in chief and two fleurs-de-lis of the last.” We've placed this heraldry on a red tabard, the color she wears most often in medieval depictions. Ideal for medieval inspired cosplay, LARP, or stage and film productions.
