King, crusader, and saint—Louis IX of France embodied the medieval ideal of Christian kingship. Crowned in 1226, Louis became one of the most powerful rulers in Europe, with a reputation was built as much upon his piety and sense of justice as his royal authority. In 1248 he departed France on the Seventh Crusade, capturing Damietta in Egypt before his army was defeated and Louis himself taken prisoner in 1250. Twenty years later he took the cross again, dying outside Tunis during his final crusade in 1270. His reputation endured long after his death, and in 1297 he was canonized as Saint Louis.

Using our Knight's Surcoat as a base, the King Louis IX Surcoat bears the royal arms of Capetian France worn during the reign of Saint Louis, a field of blue with a golden fleur-de-lis, or in heraldic terms, "Azure, a fleur-de-lis Or." Ideal for medieval inspired cosplay, LARP, or stage and film productions.
