The Knights Hospitaller began with a mission to care for the sick and protect pilgrims, but by the 13th century they had also become one of the great military orders of the Crusades. Their calling demanded that they be both warrior and servant, defending the vulnerable while maintaining hospitals for those in need. In 1248, Pope Innocent IV approved a distinct garment for Hospitallers to wear in battle, and in 1259 Pope Alexander IV prescribed the now iconic red military tunic bearing a white cross.

Using our Knight's Surcoat as a base, this surcoat bears the colors worn by the fighting brothers of the Order of Saint John, white cross upon a field of red or, in heraldic terms, "Gules, a cross Argent." Ideal for medieval inspired cosplay, LARP, or stage and film productions.
