This warm-season vine brings bold color to patios, fences, trellises, and entryways. The Bella series flowers in strong, vivid colors, creating a bright focal point against its glossy green foliage.
Its manageable climbing habit works well in containers or garden beds with support. Plant it where you can enjoy its long flowering season, or grow it in a pot that can be moved indoors before frost in cooler climates. In frost free climates, Bella Alpine Start can reach up to 8 feet over several years. It can be expected to grow to about 1-2’ tall and 12-18” wide in climates where it’s grown as an annual.
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a sunny location with rich, well-drained soil. Provide a trellis or other support, and protect the plant from frost and cold winds.
2. Watering: Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry. Keep it evenly moist during hot weather, but do not leave the roots in soggy soil.
3. Pruning: Trim lightly during the growing season to guide its shape and encourage branching. Prune more firmly in early spring to remove weak or damaged growth.
4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced or bloom-supporting fertilizer every two to four weeks during active growth. Reduce feeding in fall and stop during winter dormancy.
