Based on the "thieves of the black plague" lore, this ancient array of herbs was said to protect those who wore it from the black death. The story goes that as the plague swept across Europe a gang of thieves was robbing the dead and dying, yet evading sickness themselves. When their fortune ran out and the thieves were caught, the judge demanded to know how they had been evading the Black Death. They attributed their immunity to the secret blend of herbs they kept stuffed in the beaks of their plague doctor masks.
