From animals that roam the land to the plants whose roots grow deep in the earth, we are all living in community. The Snoqualmie Tribe has always shared the valley with the elk, and like many other tribes, the elk is honored as an animal and a food source, while their hide is used for various creations, most notably for drum making. In gorgeous shades of brown, artist Stirling MacArthur (Snoqualmie) honors this breathtaking animal in his Elk Magnet.

"The elk is symbolic of the power of community—their herd is their community and through their community, they get their strength. I want people to see this magnet and feel a part of something. I want them to be reminded of those who give them strength and those whom get strength from them," Stirling shares.

A part of our Souvenirs of Summer Capsule Collection, the Elk Magnet is one of six special items designed to capture the beauty of summer in the Pacific Northwest. From magnets to enamel pins, Stirling's Souvenir Capsule captures the beauty and significance of everything the Snoqualmie area has to offer.
