Elegant in both scale and texture, Ravenna Ivory Brocade is a richly woven fabric created for pieces where the beauty of the textile deserves to be seen.
The design features a large-scale Pomegranate floral motif accented with soft chenille weaving, surrounded by graceful scrolling ornament on a lustrous satin-weave ground. Woven entirely in subtle ivory tones, the contrast comes from texture rather than color, allowing light to move across the surface and reveal the details of the pattern.
Ravenna has a beautiful drape and substantial hand. It is slightly heavier than many traditional vestment brocades, with a full chenille back that gives the fabric additional body and richness.
The generous scale of the design makes Ravenna especially well suited to copes and other large ceremonial pieces, where there is enough uninterrupted fabric to fully appreciate the sweeping floral and scrollwork pattern.
Ravenna Ivory Brocade is particularly suited for:
The ivory tone makes Ravenna especially appropriate for Christmas, Easter, weddings, ordinations, anniversaries, feast days, and other joyful celebrations of the Church year.
Because this is a large-scale design, we especially recommend it for projects that allow the motif room to breathe. Smaller pieces may not display a complete repeat of the pattern.

What makes Ravenna unusual is the combination of its smooth satin ground with the softly dimensional chenille floral details.
Rather than relying on metallic threads or contrasting colors, the fabric creates interest through weave, sheen, and texture. The result is understated from a distance and remarkably detailed when viewed up close.
The heavier construction also gives the fabric a graceful, substantial drape that works beautifully in a full semicircular cope.

Beyond vestment making, Ravenna may also be used for gently used decorative upholstery projects, including accent chairs, occasional seating, cushions, ecclesiastical furnishings, and decorative interior pieces.
Because we do not classify Ravenna as a commercial-performance upholstery fabric, we recommend it for light or occasional-use applications rather than heavily used furniture.
With any large-scale brocade, additional yardage may be required when matching the pattern across seams or positioning a particular motif.
We recommend ordering a fabric swatch first when exact color, texture, weight, or compatibility with another fabric is important.
Sold by the yard. Swatch samples are approximately 4" x 6" and are for colour checking only.
Yes. Ravenna is particularly beautiful for copes because its large-scale floral design has room to display across the broad semicircular shape of the vestment. Its slightly heavier construction and substantial hand also create an elegant drape.
Yes. Ravenna can be used for chasubles, especially styles with larger uninterrupted areas of fabric. Because the motif is generously scaled, careful pattern placement should be considered before cutting.
Yes. Its scale makes Ravenna an excellent choice for altar frontals, superfrontals, dossals, banners and other larger ceremonial textiles.
Ravenna is woven in soft ivory-on-ivory tones. The design is created through differences in weave and texture rather than strong color contrast.
The floral areas feature dimensional chenille weaving against a smoother satin-weave ground, giving the design depth and a softly raised texture.
Ravenna can be used for gently used decorative upholstery such as accent chairs, cushions and ecclesiastical furnishings. We recommend it for light or occasional use rather than high-traffic commercial upholstery.
