The Vardenly Floor Lamp started from the short travertine posts that line the edges of old Roman piazzas, worn round stones full of small holes, with an iron lamp post rising from one of them every so often. At dusk the lamps come on above the square and the pale stone below picks up the light. We kept that picture: a solid stone post at the bottom, a single thin metal rod rising from it, and a plain cone of fabric at the top, nothing more.
The base is cut from natural travertine. Its veining, color and open pores differ on every lamp, so no two bases look exactly the same.
